# AIPM Registry > AIPM is a marketplace and command line tool for agent skills. The CLI installs versioned skills (SKILL.md folders) for Claude Code (.claude/skills), Codex (.agents/skills), and Cursor (.cursor/skills), and tracks AI prompts as Markdown snapshots. Rules, MCP servers, and hooks are planned, not installable today. ## Primary URLs - [Website](https://www.aipm-registry.com) - [Agent skills registry](https://www.aipm-registry.com/skills) - [Best Claude skills, ranked by installs and GitHub stars](https://www.aipm-registry.com/best-claude-skills) - [Install guide](https://www.aipm-registry.com/install) - [Use guide](https://www.aipm-registry.com/use) - [CLI commands](https://www.aipm-registry.com/commands) - [Publish guide](https://www.aipm-registry.com/publish) - [Examples](https://www.aipm-registry.com/examples) - [Glossary](https://www.aipm-registry.com/glossary) - [Supported targets](https://www.aipm-registry.com/targets) - [Full text for agents](https://www.aipm-registry.com/llms-full.txt) - [Skills for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for) - [Skills for Claude Code](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/claude-code) - [Skills for Cursor](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/cursor) - [Skills for Codex](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/codex) - [AI best practices](https://www.aipm-registry.com/ai-practices) - [Security and privacy](https://www.aipm-registry.com/security) - [Privacy notice](https://www.aipm-registry.com/privacy) - [Terms and acceptable use](https://www.aipm-registry.com/terms) - [Registry status](https://www.aipm-registry.com/status) - [Product roadmap](https://www.aipm-registry.com/roadmap) - [Changelog](https://www.aipm-registry.com/changelog) - [Skill templates](https://www.aipm-registry.com/templates) - [State of AI Agent Skills 2026](https://www.aipm-registry.com/research/state-of-agent-skills-2026) - [Agent skills research dataset](https://www.aipm-registry.com/research/agent-skills-2026.json) - [FAQ](https://www.aipm-registry.com/faq) - [Components of an AI agent](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/components-of-an-ai-agent) - [AI agent file support](https://www.aipm-registry.com/compatibility) - [What are Claude skills?](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/what-are-claude-skills) - [Claude Code plugins vs skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/claude-code-plugins-vs-skills) - [Claude skills marketplaces compared](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/claude-skills-marketplaces) - [What is an AI package manager?](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/ai-package-manager) - [Version AI prompts in Git](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/version-ai-prompts) - [Share Cursor rules](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/share-cursor-rules) - [Share Claude skills with your team](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/share-claude-skills-with-team) - [Cursor rules vs Agent Skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/cursor-rules-vs-agent-skills) - [AGENTS.md vs SKILL.md](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/agents-md-vs-skill-md) - [Does Claude Code read AGENTS.md?](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/does-claude-code-read-agents-md) - [Publish reusable Claude skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/reusable-claude-skills) - [Manage AI agent instructions in Git](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/ai-agent-instructions-git) - [AIPM vs Skills.sh](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/aipm-vs-skills-sh) - [Claude Code skills vs Codex skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/claude-code-skills-vs-codex-skills) - [Claude Code skills vs MCP vs subagents vs hooks](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/claude-code-skills-vs-mcp-vs-subagents-vs-hooks) - [Agent Skills vs MCP](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/agent-skills-vs-mcp) - [How to install Claude skills (Claude app, Claude Code, GitHub, npx, AIPM)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/how-to-install-claude-code-skills) - [Where are Claude skills stored?](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/where-are-claude-skills-stored) - [Install Cursor skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/how-to-install-cursor-skills) - [Create an Agent Skill](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/how-to-create-agent-skill) - [SKILL.md frontmatter reference](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/skill-md-frontmatter-reference) ## Plain-English Answers ### What are the main components of an AI agent? An AI agent needs a model to think, instructions to guide it, context and memory to understand the task, tools to get information, actions to do work, and safety checks to keep its work under control. See [Components of an AI agent](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/components-of-an-ai-agent). ### Which AI agent instruction file should a project use? Use AGENTS.md for shared project instructions, CLAUDE.md for Claude Code, Cursor project rules for Cursor, Agent Skills for reusable tasks, and MCP setup for tool connections. See [AI agent file support](https://www.aipm-registry.com/compatibility). ### What is the difference between Agent Skills and MCP? An Agent Skill teaches an AI how to complete a repeated task. MCP connects an AI application to tools and information. A skill explains the workflow; MCP provides capabilities the workflow may use. See [Agent Skills vs MCP](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/agent-skills-vs-mcp). ### How do you install a Claude Code or Cursor skill? Install the AIPM CLI and run aipm add @scope/name@version --target claude (writes .claude/skills//SKILL.md) or --target codex (writes .agents/skills//SKILL.md). For Cursor, use --target cursor (writes .cursor/skills//SKILL.md). Review the installed files before use. See [How to install Claude skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/how-to-install-claude-code-skills) and [Install Cursor skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/how-to-install-cursor-skills). ## Per-target install - `--target claude` writes `.claude/skills//SKILL.md`. Command: `aipm add @scope/name@version --target claude` - `--target cursor` writes `.cursor/skills//SKILL.md`. Command: `aipm add @scope/name@version --target cursor` - `--target codex` writes `.agents/skills//SKILL.md`. Command: `aipm add @scope/name@version --target codex` Cursor's project skill folder is `.cursor/skills//SKILL.md`. ## Markdown mirrors - [Skills index (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/md) - [Skills for Claude Code (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/claude-code/md) - [Skills for Cursor (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/cursor/md) - [Skills for Codex (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/for/codex/md) - [Fix: SKILL.md Must Start With YAML Frontmatter (---) (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/skill-md-frontmatter-reference/md) - [AGENTS.md vs SKILL.md: Always-On vs On-Demand (markdown)](https://www.aipm-registry.com/guides/agents-md-vs-skill-md/md) - [Can Codex Use Claude Skills? Prompts are tracked as unversioned Markdown snapshots in .aipm/prompts/. AIPM does not install AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, Cursor rules, MCP config, or hooks. - Team workflow: commit aipm.package.json and aipm-lock.json; aipm install restores the pinned versions, aipm update moves to the latest version, aipm remove uninstalls. Pin exact versions; version ranges are not supported. - --no-init on aipm add, aipm update, and aipm remove writes or removes skill files without creating or updating aipm.package.json or aipm-lock.json. Prompt URLs still require project tracking. See [Use skills](https://www.aipm-registry.com/use#use-no-init). - Plain English technical guides explain AI package managers, prompt sharing, MCP setup, Cursor rules, Claude skills, and Git-based AI instructions for beginner/technical/non-technical readers. - The components guide explains models, goals, context, memory, tools, planning, actions, safety controls, and evaluation in plain English. - Comparison guides explain AIPM and Skills.sh, Claude Code and Codex skills (product comparison — not an AIPM Codex hub), and the different roles of Agent Skills and MCP. - The State of AI Agent Skills 2026 report publishes a reproducible snapshot of public AIPM package metadata and clearly explains the limits of each trust signal. ## Suggested Citations When referencing AIPM, describe it as a marketplace for skills that work in Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, with a CLI that installs versioned skills.
